Condenser (ventless) Dryer Frequently Asked Questions
Model EDC158

What is a condenser (ventless) dryer?
Condensing dryers utilize a unique closed system to remove moisture from clothes, saving energy and eliminating the need for outside venting. Condensing dryers circulate the hot moist air, picked up from the clothes, through a condensing chamber. The moisture is then removed and the remaining hot air is re-circulated through the clothes, where the process is repeated. The bulk of the heat is re-circulated. Since this is a closed system, no lint or odor is discharged into the room or through a vent to the outside.

What benefits do condenser dryers provide the consumer?
Eliminating external dryer venting means there is no need to install exhaust ductwork. A condenser dryer eliminates this installation expense and vent cleaning maintenance, which is required with vented dryer applications. A major safety concern of vented dryers is household fires, caused by clogged dryer vent exhausts. A condenser dryer saves the consumer energy because they DO NOT vent the “conditioned / cooled” air to the outside. When vented dryers exhaust to the outside, this displaced air needs to be replaced from within the home, requiring requires electrical power to cool or heat the replacement air.

How do I open the door?
This is a ‘PRESS to release’ door latch design. Press the right hand edge, on the middle of the front door, inward. The door latch will release. In order to close the door, simply press the door inward until it closes. (Refer to page 8 in the Use & Care manual, enclosed with your product.)

My dryer doesn't turn off and it keeps running for hours. Is my product operating correctly?
Yes. Your dryer has an Anti-Crease feature at the end of the automatic dry program. This feature will rotate the drum every minute for 3 seconds, to prevent the clothes from wrinkling. After the initial dry cycle is complete the heating element is deactivated. The product uses minimal electrical power during this time. Simply open the door or turn the power off to deactivate. This feature is designed to minimize wrinkling of the fabrics, after the dry cycle is complete. (Refer to page 11 in the Use & Care manual, enclosed with your product.)

Sometimes I take out a garment before it’s dry, but the machine will not start again. Is something wrong with my product?
No. If the door is opened during an automatic dry program the machine must be reset. To reset the machine, turn the dial to the 12 o'clock (Stop) position until it beeps. Then turn to the program you want to resume. The machine will beep again, and then start. (Refer to page 11, Interrupting a Program, in the Use & Care manual enclosed with your product.)

If I try to dry a few garments they get hot, but not dry. Do I need service?
No. If you are drying only 2-3 items in the dryer, use a timed dry program. The automatic programs are sensing moisture in the clothing. The washer spins at 1000 rpm’s; therefore there is not enough moisture in the clothing for the sensors to detect accurate dryness and the dry cycle shuts off too soon. Smaller loads should always be dried using time dry feature.

The dryer seems to be taking longer and longer to dry. Is there a problem?
A. Condenser / Ventless dryers require fresh air to dry efficiently. The location of the installed products must provide fresh air during operation. If your product is installed in an enclosed space, such as a closet, the closet door must remain open or the door requires louvered slats on the front; allowing for intake of fresh air during operation.
B. Check the condenser in the bottom, left hand side of the machine. Clean if there is household debris present - lint, pet hair, etc. This should be always cleaned every three months. (Refer to page 13 in the Use & Care manual, enclosed with your product.)
C. Check the lint filter. If you use fabric softener dryer sheets, they tend to clog the filter. Clean the filter with a soft brush and warm soapy water. (Refer to page 12 in the Use & Care manual, enclosed with your product.)

The Delicate light is on or flashing whenever I am running a program. I did not pick the delicate program. Is this OK?
Yes, the light will be illuminated during the Automatic programs. During the last 10 minutes of the program the light will flash. During the time program, the light is illuminated throughout the entire program. The Delicate program will have the light flashing during the cycle. (Refer to page 10 in the Use & Care manual, enclosed with your product.)

What are the drain and drain light functions for?
A condenser dryer removes moisture from the clothing, in order to dry the contents. Your product has two options for removal of this moisture. One option is to Direct Drain. This drains the moisture directly into your washer drain pipe. A second option is where the dryer drains directly into a containment chamber, located on the upper left hand side of your product. (Refer to page 12 in the Use & Care manual, enclosed with your product.) The majority of the installations use the Direct Drain method. If so, the Drain button and Drain Light functions are not required.
